Going on a LOW BUY Year | 2019

Hi Friends!

I have been trying to write this post for weeks now. I have been really debating on what I wanted to do in 2019. I know I mentally want to go on some sort of no buy or low buy but I also didn’t really want to commit to anything. I decided that since I have been thinking about this for so long, it was a sign that I needed to do this!

I decided to go on a low buy instead of a no buy because I want to leave myself a little leeway to buy items that I really wanted or needed. Because I do have a beauty blog and I intend to write lots of reviews next year, I want some flexibility to buy new items to review. I don’t want to buy everythingthat is new though. So I wanted to just talk / write through why I want to go on a low buy and some of my rules that I am setting for this low buy.

Reasons Why I Want To Go On A Low Buy

  1. I spent way too much on makeup in 2018

Not that I would ever go into debt to buy makeup – I did spend a lot of my extra money on makeup through out the year. It has been a lot of fun but I have been just buying things to buy things sometimes. I want to re-focus my financial mind to paying off my student loans and then adding extra money into my savings.

Of course, like I already mentioned, I will be buying some makeup but definitely not NEARLY as much as I did this year.

  1. I have plenty of makeup / skin care items that I want to review

Sometimes I make the excuse when I buy something that I want to review it for my blog. The truth is that I have a pile of things that I want to review for my blog and I haven’t had enough time to do so yet. I actually have plenty of things that I could write around to get me through all of 2019.

  1. I want to get more use out of all of the items I already own

Because I was doing a lot of reviews and using a lot of different items this year – I haven’t gotten a lot of use out of anything (besides my ABH Modern Renaissance palette). My hope for 2019 is to get LOTS of use out of all of my makeup collection. I want to hit lots of pan and use up a lot of items. I definitely don’t want to use items just a couple of times and then put them away to use something else.

This also goes a long with the fact that makeup expires. I know I will keep my powder products for a very long time but I don’t ever want to get to the point where I am throwing away my makeup because it has expired and not because I have used it enough.

Rules for my Low Buy

  1. I will not mindlessly buy

I am a total SALE shopper. When I see makeup go on sale, I get so excited and I feel like I need to purchase it right away! I want to be more consciences of shopping overall and really only focus on items that I want or need (versus just picking it up because itโ€™s a good deal).

  1. I will allow 3 new products a month (guideline)

I know some people give themselves an allowance in different ways. Some people restrict the number of products, some people set a budget.. Etc. I decided I am going to try to limit the number of new products coming into my collection. This will help me not just go to TJ MAXX and pick up 10 different items just because. The items will carry over month to month so if I don’t buy anything in January then I could buy up to 6 items in February. So over the course of the year, I am only bringing in around 36 new items. That sounds like a lot but it will be a lot less than what I brought in this year.

This is just a guideline for me. If I end up buying 4 items in a month, I am not going to be upset with myself. The overall idea is just to limit what is coming in and not get carried away with new makeup. I just want to be able to control my spending and shopping habits.

  1. I will be honest and report back on everything I bought at the end of each month

This is more so just for my tracking and being honest with myself. I have only featured some of my Sephora and Ulta hauls throughout the year on my blog but I have also bought a lot through TJ MAXX / Marshalls and some orders directly through brand websites. I want to keep track of everything that I am bringing in so I know exactly what I have and how much I spent.

Well, that is it for me today. I have seen so many no buy / low buy declarations on YouTube and different blogs. I think it will be the year for conscious buying. I think this will be a good plan for me. Now that I am announcing this, I am sticking with it! I would even love to buy less than my 3 per month guideline.

  1. I feel exactly the same way! Next year I am going on a low-but as well, very similarly to yours in that Iโ€™m only allowed a few products a month as well. You made great points! Good luck on your low-buy! ๐Ÿ˜Š
