Violet Voss: Crème Brulee Fun Sized Eye Shadow Palette Review and Swatches!

Hi Friends!

I feel like its been forever since I posted!! These past couple of weeks have been crazy busy but I am back! Today we are talking about the Violet Voss Crème Brulee fun sized eyeshadow palette! I bought this palette back during the November VIB sale so I have had it for quite awhile! If you follow me on Instagram (@taylersedit), then you may have seen it in my Makeup Of The Day posts recently too!

Violet Voss released 4 of these Fun Sized eye shadow palettes right before the sale which was pretty brilliant! These are some of the most affordable palettes at Sephora for only $18! Crème Brulee comes with 10 eyeshadows, 4 matte / semi-matte and 6 shimmer / metallic shades.

The Packaging

Crème Brulee is such a cute palette!! It is called Fun Sized for a REASON! I think they could have made it even smaller but I don’t mind the size at all. The front of the palette has a cream / brown shade with the name of the palette (Crème Brulee) written across it. It does have a magnetic clasp which is nice. And it also comes with a small mirror.

I only think I wish that would added was names to the eyeshadows! It is always easier with names!

The Shades and Swatches

Since the eyeshadows don’t have names, I will just be calling them “eyeshadow #1, #2, etc.”. Eyeshadow #1 is in the top right.

In the first row, you have:

Eyeshadow #1 – This is a white / cream matte shade. Pretty basic shade to set your eyeshadow primer.

Eyeshadow #2 – This is a soft yellow / champagne shimmer shade. This is my go to shimmer in the entire palette.

Eyeshadow #3 – This is a golden yellow shimmer shade.

Eyeshadow #4 – This is a orange terracotta matte shade. This is really the only transition shade in the palette so a lot of looks come out orange.

Eyeshadow #5 – This is chocolate brown matte shade with gold specks of glitter. This shade is not very pigmented and it takes lot to build it up and blend.

In the second row, you have:

Eyeshadow #6 – This is a muter orange / brown matte shade with specks of glitter. This one is also not very pigmented but it performs a bit better than the chocolate brown one.

Eyeshadow #7 – This is a orange shimmer shade. It is one of the most blinding metallics in the palette.

Eyeshadow #8 – This is a golden champagne shimmer shade. This is my other go to shimmer in the palette!

Eyeshadow #9 – This is a brown taupe shimmer shade.

Eyeshadow #10 – This is a dark brown shimmer shade.

My Review

This took me a LONG time to finalize my thoughts on this palette. I initially bought it back in November during the Sephora VIB sale and I was so excited to use it right away. I ended up using it a couple times and then I became overwhelmed with all of my new makeup and I put this palette away.

Ultimately, I have mixed feelings about this palette. I don’t think it is the highest quality palette but it also isn’t the worst. I have had some blending issues with the dark brown glitter matte shade (eyeshadow #5) which is disappointing since this is basically the other shade to deepen up your crease.

The other shades are pretty good. The main shade that I really like is eyeshadow #8 – I used that shimmer shade is basically all of my eye looks. But I also liked the other metallic / shimmery shades as well. And the matte crème shade is really good!

I think what I like the least in this palette though is that all of my looks were orange. There just isn’t a lot of variety – even for it being 10 shades. I LOVE the pop of orange and it totally belongs in this palette but Violet Voss is missing that mid-tone brown that is needed for a true neutral look.

So overall, I do think this is a good palette for the price. Do I think you should run out an by it? Not exactly. If you were thinking of already buying this, then yeah I think you would like it. It is pretty affordable, especially if you can get it on sale like I did. If you don’t need more eyeshadow or aren’t interested in these shades, definitely skip it!

What are your thoughts on Violet Voss and these Fun Sized eyeshadow palettes? I would love to know your thoughts!

  1. I’ve never seen this palette before! I like the colour layout and it’s a good price but judging by your thoughts I’m not overly enthusiastic to look into buying it! The font on the palette really reminds me of the Tarte rainforest of the sea font!!!x

  2. When I saw these on trend mood I had a feeling they’d be a little iffy. Idk why but I just had a hunch. Violet Voss usually has some interesting releases but can be hit or miss. I haven’t bought anything but I still want their rainbow palette

  3. Hmm I think I will skip this one. It looks pretty similar to some of my other neutral palettes, I doubt I’d reach for it. I want to pick up one of the more colorful fun sized palettes though! Great review x
