Hi Friends!
I have a VERY exciting review today! We are talking about the Alter Ego Temptress Eyeshadow Palette! I just posted earlier this week about unboxing this package from Alter Ego because it is my VERY first PR package directly from a brand. I know this brand isn’t super well-known but it is still really exciting!
I just want to say upfront – I did receive this palette for free in exchange for an honest review!
Product Details
The Temptress palette is a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry palette. It retails for $16 and comes with 14 shades and a mirror! Out of the 14 shades, 7 are matte and 7 are shimmer shades.
Unlike the Sultry palette, Temptress does not come with a brush but it is still significantly less expensive than ABH.
The Packaging
Alter Ego definitely changed it up from the Sultry palette when it comes to the packaging (at least on the outside). It is a hard cover palette with the name Temptress written across it in gold letters. The background has red and black pattern on it, almost like a silk sheet.
The inside of the palette looks eerily similar to Sultry. The eyeshadow pans are all square and appear against a black inside. Even the mirror has a black surrounding.
The Shades and Swatches
Just looking at this palette, it is an obvious dupe of the ABH Sultry. The shades are pretty much IDENTICAL – only shifted around the palette a bit. But I wanted to talk through each shade.
In the first row, you have:
Whisper – Granite cool toned grey matter shade.
Lust – Tan brown matte shadow.
Blush – Matte coral peach shade. Even in this palette, I don’t know what to do with this coral shade!
Gilt – Shimmery gold shadow.
Uptown – Matte taupe shade.
Sterling – Silver shimmer.
Stiletto – Matte black shade.
In the second row, you have:
Lace – This is the typical matte cream toned shade. I use this shade to set my eyeshadow primer everyday.
Seduction – Soft pink / white shimmer shade.
Champagne – This is a pink champagne shimmer shade.
Mistress – Metallic dark copper shadow.
Ritz – Metallic bright champagne shimmer. I love the way this one catches the light!
After Hours – Dark matte chocolate-brown shade.
Desire – This is a metallic brown shimmer shade.
I like the shade names that they came up with – they definitely go with the Temptress theme.
My Review
Soooo… I have a couple of thoughts about this palette. I want to say that overall, I am pretty IMPRESSED! If we are only talking about the formula – when I first touched the shade, it felt really dense and slippery which is really different from an ABH formula. ABH shadows are really soft and powdery. Just by touching it, I did not think it would perform very well.
As you can tell from the swatches, this palette is actually pigmented! I did build up a couple of the shades – just so they didn’t look horrible. I had some difficulty swatching the matte shades like Whisper and Uptown. The swatches are pretty nice though.
What matters the most is how this palette performs on the eyes, and I will tell you – this palette is REALLY good. It is easy to blend and build up color easily. It does not perform the same as ABH Sultry because of the formula differences that I described above. However, you absolutely can accomplish the same looks as anything from Sultry.
The metallics are very shiny and the mattes appear beautifully on the eyes. I am really pleasantly surprised with this palette and think it is worth the $16 especially if you don’t already have the Sultry palette.
With all of that being said, I do have mixed feelings about this being a makeup dupe. I wish they took a little bit more creative freedom instead of copying ABH so much. I think ultimately, it is up to you and how you feel about dupes. I am going to write a post soon about comparing this palette to the Sultry palette so stay tuned!
Unaffiliated Code
I am NOT affiliated with Alter Ego in any way. I have had no contact with the brand in anyway after they sent my this package. However, on the note that they sent me, they did include a discount code that I could share with my subscribers. It is a 15% off discount if you decide to purchase this palette.
Coupon Code = TAYLER
I do not receive a commission if you use this code. I just thought I would share if you want to save some money!

Let me know down below how you feel about makeup dupes? Do you support them? I would LOVE to know!
I’m glad it turned out to be a decent palette! I have mixed feelings on the dupe thing too… I liked Bad Habit and bought some of theirs, and they are a dupe brand. I think the idea is if you like the colors but can’t pay the full price, you can get a little less quality with these dupe brands. The high end brands don’t seem to be suffering, so… 🤷 I still think it’s awesome they sent this to you!!

Yeah, I just wish there was a little more creativity!! Like it doesn’t need to be SOOOOO close to the high end brand. I understand that a lot of people can’t afford a $45 palette though. Thank you again for all of the support – love you girl!

Yeah I agree! If they just used the palette as inspiration and had a similar color story or something, that would be better. But I get the need for making cheaper dupes, too. And you are welcome!! I appreciate your support to me 🙌 ❤️❤️
