Dose of Colors Desi x Katy: Friendcation Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches!

Happy Monday! It’s the beginning of the week so let’s talk about something fun – makeup! Specifically, the Dose of Colors x Desi & Katy Friendcation eyeshadow palette! This palette was released awhile ago but I have been using it so much lately that I figured it was time to share my review!

The Friendcation palette is a collab, of course, between Dose of Colors and Desi Perkins and Katy DeGroot (AKA LustreLux). Desi and Katy are very popular YouTubers and best friends. This palette is actually the second collaboration that they did with Dose of Colors. They initially released a highlighter, a small 4 pan eyeshadow squad, and some lipsticks. I didn’t pick anything up from that release.

This palette retails for $55 and comes with 10 shades. There are 5 matte shades and 5 shimmery / metallic shades. It’s a good split of formulas to have the best of both worlds! Other benefits of this palette is that it is cruelty free, gluten free, and paraben free!

The Packaging

This palette is obviously beautiful but its not the best packaging in my opinion. The outside is a champagne cloth but it is kind of rough to the touch. Its not something pleasant to touch despite it being pretty to look at. I think it’s a unique outer packaging though. The inside is a metallic gold color which is fun! It looks really nice.

I wish the names of the shades were on the inside of the palette. They are only printed on a stick on the back of the palette. But that’s a minor inconvenience. Overall, I like the packaging!

The Shades & Swatches

In the first row, you have:

Basic – This is a soft pinky cream matte shade. I use this shade to set my eyeshadow primer. It is a pretty basic shade as the name suggests!

Cheens – This is a dark chocolate brown matte shade. I like using this shade to deepen up the outer corner but I usually don’t reach for as dark of a shade so I tend to use Churro more for that.

Necessary – This is one of my favorite shades in the palette! It is a mid tone brown shade and it is perfect as a transition shade. It’s a really beautiful color!

Dirty Money – One of the most unique shades in the palette is this dirty green metallic shadow. I think its pretty but its not a shade that I have reached for a lot.

A Moment – Another shade that I haven’t used that much is this bright metallic cobalt blue shade. It has a slight purple shift to it which makes it really unique but its not practical for every day use.

In the second row, you have:

Try Me – This is a cranberry pink metallic shade. This is really pretty as an all over the lid shade and I like how it looks with the next shade Just a Kiss.

Just a Kiss – Probably my most used metallic shade is Just a Kiss. It is the most practical everyday champagne shadow.

Girl Bye – This is a cranberry pink matte shade. Another nice shade to add in the crease or all over the lid.

Churro –  This is a warm matte brown shade. I love using this one to deepen up the outer corner. It’s a good color to add some dimension but not too dark and smokey.

Game Over – And lastly, this shade is a midnight black with silver glitter in it. It is interesting how it look like a dark blue in the pan but it is actually much darker.

My Review

I really LIKE this palette! The mattes are the super stars of this palette but the metallic shades are also beautiful and amazing quality. I wish the metallics were a little bit more wearable but obviously that is just my personal preference. When I reach for this palette, I typically reach for the mattes and then use a shimmer shade from another palette.

I am fortunate that I bought this palette for 50% off awhile back from Ulta. I would not spend $55 for it and can’t recommend it at that price. But if you catch it on sale again, go for it! The quality is really good and I think it is an easy palette to get a lot of use from.
