Hi Friends!
If you don’t already know, ColourPop recently released a Disney Villains collaboration and of course I had to pick up the eyeshadow palette! I am definitely a Disney fan – I love almost all their movies and could watch them over and over again and never get tired of them. One of my all time favorite Disney movies is Hercules so when I saw that Hades (the Villian) was featured in this collection, I jumped!
There are 6 villains featured overall – Hades from Hercules, Cruella De Ville from 101 Dalmatians, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Evil Queen from Snow White, and Dr. Facilier from The Princess and The Frog.
Everything about this collection stood out to me but I was especially drawn to the eyeshadow palette. The name of this palette is Misunderstood which is just perfect. It retails for $22 and comes with 15 different shades. Out of the 15 shades, only 5 of them are matte and the other 10 are shimmery / metallic shades. It does not include a mirror but I am okay with that personally.
The Packaging
I am OBSESSED with the packaging for this palette. I honestly don’t know where to begin because there are so many details. The outer carton is completely black with details of Disney movies that are being featured in this collection.
The details are imprinted in a shiny black and they include images like paw prints from 101 Dalmatians or the first monster that Hercules fought . There is also a sea shell to represent The Little Mermaid! It is just really detailed and cool! The name of the palette ‘Misunderstood’ is also printed on the front of the carton in neon pink raised print! The shade names are also nicely printed on the back in black and pink.
As for the palette design, there are prints of the villains all across the palette. The different villains / prints appear in a V so it is really eye catching. There is a mix of all green, purple, blue, and pink in all of the prints – I love looking at this palette. The front also has the name of the palette printed in neon pink raised print. And the back has the name of the eyeshadows.
The lid of the inside of the palette is all black with the printed designs that was on the front of the palette carton (a black crow, skull and cross bones, paw prints). Just little designs that represent the Disney movies featured. The eyeshadow pans sit in a holographic silver bottom.
As I mentioned, this palette is very details! I couldn’t describe it all, even if I tried! They did an AMAZING job with the packaging – its just really interesting and fun to look at. I love it!
The Shades and Swatches
In the first row, you have:
No Spots – This is a pure white matte shade.
Mongrels – This is a shimmery pink champagne shade.
Diablo – One of the most unique shades in the palette is this metallic lime green.
Devious – This is a matte terracotta orange shade. This has been one of my go-to shades in the Misunderstood palette because it is one of the few mattes.
Tragic – This is a matte beige shadow. I used this shade all the time as a soft transition shade.
In the second row, you have:
Underworld – This is a classic ColourPop metallic bronzey copper shade.
Pain & Panic – This shade appears very similar to Underworld in the pan but it is actually a yellow gold metallic shadow.
Forest of Thorns – Another FUN shadow is this metallic pinky purple shade! I LOVE this shade!
Flotsam – This is a pretty pink shimmery shadow. ColourPop says on their website that this shade has blue glitter in it but its not noticeable at all.
The Fates – This is a matte dark blue shade. I actually really like using this shade in my outer corner to deepen up an eye look. It just adds an interesting flare.
In the third (and last) row, you have:
Revenge – This is a shimmery black shadow with silver glitter. This isn’t my favorite shade in the palette just because it isn’t very wearable for me. If I ever use a black, I would use something like 101.
Sing – One of the most unique shades is this Sing shade. It is a dark brown with a pink duo chrome shift. Its SO PRETTY!
Jetsam – Another duo chrome shade is this purple / teal metallic shade. Again, its so pretty and unique!
Facile – This is a olive green shimmery shade with gold glitter flecks. I am loving these green tones lately.
101 – And finally, this is a matte grey / black shade. I never use black shades but I did use this one and actually liked the way it came out!
Just looking at the shades, I definitely wish there were some more mattes. I feel like this palette is limiting just because of the lack of matte shades. I also would have liked only one black shade (instead of Revenge and 101). I know they are in different finishes but it’s a little too much black. A different shade would have made the palette better.
Other than that, I think the shade selection is BEAUTIFUL! There are so many bright colors and neutral tones to make a variety of looks. Sing and Jetsam are crazy unique and beautiful and I also LOVE Facile and Forest of Thorns.
My Review
I LOVE this palette – ColourPop just continues to impress me! The packaging is literally OUT OF THIS WORLD. I know that doesn’t matter for the quality of the palette but I definitely appreciate when thought goes into the packaging. Especially with such a unique collection with Disney. I could look at the packaging all day!
The quality is also AMAZING! ColourPop makes some amazing shades, more metallic and matte. Luckily, I didn’t have any issue with the dark mattes in this palette, they all perform beautiful and are definitely pigmented. The shimmers are amazing as well, very vibrant and easy to use. As I mentioned above, I love the unique colors and the duo chromes. They just did a really beautiful job.
This is not the end all be all palette for sure, it doesn’t have enough mattes or enough neutral shades to be used every day but it definitely is a perfect palette for fun occasions. I am really loving it and highly recommend it if you are drawn to the shades or just want to try something unique. (I also LOVE the price!)
Let me know down below what YOU think of of this palette?! Did you pick it up from ColourPop or did you pass? I would LOVE to know!

I definitely agree with you, I think if there were only more mattes in this palette I would be more drawn to it. I felt the same way about the Disney Princess palette! The shade Diablo is stunning, though! And ooh, that last swatch pic definitely gives me villain vibes! Great review, thanks for sharing! 💕

Yeah, they should have balanced the mattes and shimmers a little better. I AGREE – that last row is so villainy! I like how each row just works together. Thanks for your comment. 🙂
